1st ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND GETAWAY

For our first Anniversary, Derek and I decided that we would rather get away for the weekend than spend money on gifts for each other. I had never been to Moab, and Derek hadn’t been since he was a kid, so we decided that it would be the perfect place to get away for the weekend.

I couldn’t believe how beautiful that little town and the surrounding areas were. It reminded me of home a lot, but it was so beautiful in its own way.

We drove to Moab on Friday. It took us about 5 hours to get there from home. We checked into our cheap little motel, and went out to dinner at a authentic mexican restaurant. On Saturday, we woke up early (to beat the heat) and hiked to the arch.

The arch has been something I’ve wanted to see since as long as I can remember. I never felt like a true Utahn since I hadn’t seen it. It did not disappoint!

We stayed at the arch for about a hour, people watching and taking in the beautiful view. Once it started getting too crowded, we hiked back down to our car. The next few hours were filled coffee shops, local jewelry and rock stores, and an afternoon nap. (because what’s a vacation without a nap?)

When we woke up, Derek decided that he wanted to show me Dead Horse Point. The view was incredible! It reminded me a lot of the Grand Canyon on a smaller scale.

After Dead Horse Point, we went to dinner at Pasta Jay’s, and then took a three hour sunset jeeping adventure.

We had a lot of fun, and the sunset was breathtaking. I am a sucker for desert skies, especially when they are bright pink.

We drove back to our home on Sunday, which was our anniversary. We picked Harvey up from my mom’s, made steaks for dinner, and indulged in our wedding cake. It was just as tasty as I remember!

I am so thankful for my healthy marriage, my husband, our home, and our adventures. Life is great with him by my side, and it just keeps getting better! One year down, forever to go.

Onto the next adventure, Wren
