Christmas Celebrations 2016

I can’t believe this year is already coming to an end. It has been such a wonderful year for us, and I am so excited to share all of our BIG plans for next year, but that will be in a later post!

This Christmas season was so magical. Having our own home with our Harvey made it so special. This was our seventh Christmas together, and I think it was my favorite so far.

The weekend before Christmas, we made a quick trip to Salt Lake to visit Whitney, Jake, & the girls, and to go to Grandma Wheeler’s annual Christmas party. I love holidays and Christmas traditions. We froze in the 12 degree weather, but had a lot of fun spending time with family and catching up with extended family.

A couple of days before Christmas, Shara and Axel hosted a gingerbread house contest at their new house. Derek took first place! Which isn’t fair, because I’ve always been better at gingerbread houses. He is better at carving pumpkins, but now he is just a pro at both!

dsdjskdnskjDerek and I decided to have Christmas Eve dinner at our house this year (because we could!) The Durstelers, Mom & Ali, and Alyssa all came. Instead of buying gifts this year, we all just bought one present and did a gift exchange. It was so fun to focus on family and creating memories instead of spending a lot of money!

We went on a drive to look at lights with Derek’s siblings, and ended the night watching The Grinch in our new pajamas. I have watched the Grinch every Christmas Eve since it first came out. It is one of my favorite traditions!hdsfsdhfs

On Christmas morning, Derek and I opened the very few gifts that we got for each other. It was quiet, calm, and simple. I know one day Christmas morning will be busy, chaotic, and much more magical, but we enjoyed our quiet morning in our new house together.

After breakfast, we met up with dad  back at our house! He came over to open his Christmas/birthday gifts since his birthday is on the 27th. We visited with him for a while with Ali and Josh. After they went home, Derek and I met the Durstelers up in Pine Valley to play in the snow.fdlfdslkfjds

This year was filled with Christmas traditions, old and new, a lot of family time, and so many great memories. I hope all of your holidays were merry and bright. We are so excited for the new year and all of the new adventures that are coming with it! Merry Christmas, and a very happy new year! Love, The Durstelers

Lifestyle Pictures by Katelyn Marie

Untitled2Untitled3When my dear friend Katelyn started doing photography, I knew that I wanted her to take lifestlye pictures of Harvey and us in our home. Every day I wake up in our cozy Dursteler abode to puppy kisses and my handsome husband. Our life is so simple right now. It’s happy, and easy going. This year I have became aware that we are currently living in our “good ol’ days.” And I never take a single one of them for granted.12

3I know that in ten years, or even five years down the road, our life together will be different. It will still be beautiful, but I am sure that it will be more messy and more busy. We will most likely have little people who need to be taken care of, a lack of sleep, more established careers, and less alone time together. I wanted to capture the memories that we are making together in this simple time of our lives. So that we can always remember our “good old days” in our happy home with our Harvey boy. I know that I will always cherish this time of our lives, and I am so happy that I have these photos to hold onto it forever.

11th New Habit

goof^^^ *This picture was taken by my dear friend Katelyn Orme, I will be posting all of the pictures from this shoot in the near future.*

Winter is finally here. I love this time of year so much. Mostly because I spend most of my free time with family and friends, reflect on the past year, and feel so full of blessings and gratitude. The holidays, and the colder weather are just a plus.

15327356_1160977127288708_8474522291225923154_nIt was hard for me to think of a new habit for the month of November. I already had 10 new habits for this year and I spent a lot of time thinking about what I could do to really improve my lifestyle and work towards being my best self.

I decided to wake up every morning and start my days with the gym six days a week. I start by running a mile and then I lift weights. I did so well. I went to the gym every day for 3 weeks, and then I pulled a muscle in my back, so I am currently taking a break from the gym. I don’t think that I will break this new healthy habit because I can not wait to get back!

I have always struggled with self love for my body. To be honest, there isn’t a single thing that I absolutely love about it. It is hard not compare myself in this day and age, but I have learned to change my thoughts and focus on the positive. I am healthy, I am young, and I should love my body for all of the things it does for me.15283945_1160976890622065_904220044882609455_n

I am not starting to set weight goals or beginning a weight loss or get fit journey. When I have done this in the past, I get too frustrated and give up eating well and exercise all together.

This time I decided to take it by a different approach and go to the gym every day simply because exercising feels good. I may not lose weight or get strong right away, but I am doing better than I was a few months ago, and in a year, I will be so thankful that I started this new habit.

It’s the first of December, and I have already started my last new habit! It’s crazy that after this month, I will have 12 new habits, that I do just about every day, that I didn’t do last year!
