I can’t believe this year is already coming to an end. It has been such a wonderful year for us, and I am so excited to share all of our BIG plans for next year, but that will be in a later post!
This Christmas season was so magical. Having our own home with our Harvey made it so special. This was our seventh Christmas together, and I think it was my favorite so far.
The weekend before Christmas, we made a quick trip to Salt Lake to visit Whitney, Jake, & the girls, and to go to Grandma Wheeler’s annual Christmas party. I love holidays and Christmas traditions. We froze in the 12 degree weather, but had a lot of fun spending time with family and catching up with extended family.
A couple of days before Christmas, Shara and Axel hosted a gingerbread house contest at their new house. Derek took first place! Which isn’t fair, because I’ve always been better at gingerbread houses. He is better at carving pumpkins, but now he is just a pro at both!
Derek and I decided to have Christmas Eve dinner at our house this year (because we could!) The Durstelers, Mom & Ali, and Alyssa all came. Instead of buying gifts this year, we all just bought one present and did a gift exchange. It was so fun to focus on family and creating memories instead of spending a lot of money!
We went on a drive to look at lights with Derek’s siblings, and ended the night watching The Grinch in our new pajamas. I have watched the Grinch every Christmas Eve since it first came out. It is one of my favorite traditions!
On Christmas morning, Derek and I opened the very few gifts that we got for each other. It was quiet, calm, and simple. I know one day Christmas morning will be busy, chaotic, and much more magical, but we enjoyed our quiet morning in our new house together.
Then we were off to grandma and grandpa’s for Christmas morning omelets. Mom, Ali, and Josh joined us to!
After breakfast, we met up with dad back at our house! He came over to open his Christmas/birthday gifts since his birthday is on the 27th. We visited with him for a while with Ali and Josh. After they went home, Derek and I met the Durstelers up in Pine Valley to play in the snow.
This was our first time seeing Harvey in the snow, and we all thought it was very entertaining.
This year was filled with Christmas traditions, old and new, a lot of family time, and so many great memories. I hope all of your holidays were merry and bright. We are so excited for the new year and all of the new adventures that are coming with it! Merry Christmas, and a very happy new year! Love, The Durstelers
Onto the next adventure, Wren
